What systems, audit, and risk covers
Behind every good safety culture sits a management system that people actually use: the policies, procedures, risk registers, training records, and reporting that show how work is planned and controlled. Systems roles build and maintain that framework, audit roles test whether it’s working, and risk and compliance roles make sure the organisation understands its obligations and its biggest exposures. Much of this work happens against recognised standards, and often across safety, environment, and quality at once.
The roles we recruit
These roles range from hands-on advisors to people who own the whole system, including:
HSE Systems Advisor
WHS Compliance Advisor
HSE Lead Auditor
Risk Advisor
Risk and Compliance Manager
HSEQ Systems Manager
What good looks like in a hire
Experience implementing or maintaining a system certified to ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or ISO 9001 is often the starting point, and lead auditor training against one or more of these standards is valued for audit roles. Risk roles benefit from familiarity with ISO 31000 and with how risk is reported to executives and boards, and investigation training such as ICAM is a useful extra. Just as important are the people skills: an auditor who can find a gap without putting people offside, and a systems specialist who keeps documents simple enough that a busy supervisor will use them.
The market in Australia
Government and major project tenders often require or favour a certified safety management system, which keeps demand for HSE systems and audit experience steady, particularly in infrastructure, utilities, and energy. People who combine strong systems knowledge with genuine site experience can be harder to find, because many come from either a compliance or an operational background rather than both. Integrated HSEQ systems have also made experience across safety, environment, and quality more valuable.
