What health, safety, and wellbeing covers
Health and safety work is about making sure people go home from work safe and well. Day to day, that means identifying and controlling risks, consulting with workers, investigating incidents, helping leaders understand and meet their duties, and building systems that hold up in practice, not only on paper. More and more, it also covers mental health and wellbeing, so a good safety function now looks after how work affects people as well as the physical hazards around them.
The roles we recruit
Our health and safety recruitment spans every level, from people early in their safety career to those setting the direction for a whole organisation. The roles include:
WHS Coordinator
HSE Advisor
Safety Business Partner
HSE Manager
Head of Health and Safety
General Manager HSE
What good looks like in a hire
For coordinator and advisor roles, a Cert IV or Diploma in WHS is a common starting point, and many manager and head of safety roles ask for a degree or graduate diploma in OHS, or professional certification. Beyond the qualifications, the people who do well in these roles can build trust with a site team and a leadership team alike, explain risk in plain language, and influence decisions without relying on authority. For senior roles, experience guiding change, reporting to executives and boards, and developing a team matters just as much.
The market in Australia
Most states and territories now work under harmonised WHS laws, with Victoria under its own OHS legislation, so experience in one jurisdiction usually carries across, although the detail still matters. Regulations on psychosocial hazards have broadened what employers expect from their safety teams, and people who are confident with both physical and psychosocial risk are in demand. We find experienced HSE advisors and managers are often settled in their roles and not actively looking, which is why relationships built over time make a real difference when a role is harder to recruit.
If you’re recruiting for a health and safety role, Submit a vacancy and we’ll be in touch within one business day, and if you’re looking for HSE or WHS jobs, our current opportunities are a good place to start.
